Saturdays: Chelsea & Greenwich Village
I treated myself to some down time in the city over the holidays. The luxury of unrushed breakfast at home, time to read the paper and stroll to Monica's noon yoga class at Jivamukti...
After yoga, I met my cousins at ABC Kitchen for an early holiday family feast which included the truffled flatbread special on the menu and my usual roast carrot and avocado salad! On a full stomach, I picked up a few essentials at Buon Italia in Chelsea Market - pasta, coffee, olive oil, mortadella and parmesan - to take back to my apartment. On my way I made an unplanned stop at Lehmann Maupin gallery to see the collection of portraits and landscapes by Catherine Opie.
Feeling inspired, I made plans to meet a friend at the Whitney to catch the Frank Stella exhibit. Loved the contrast of seeing his bold colored prints alongside more monochromatic ones in this beautifully curated retrospective. Right before close, we also took in the NY emerging artist Rachel Rose's Everything and More striking video installation which merges highly absorbing moving images and sound with broader related environments.
A cocktail at Santina with light bites of Cecina at the bar transported us straight to southern Italy circa 1950s. Pair the Calabrian Tuna Cecina and Squash Carpaccio with the Salerno Sling for a full taste of the Mediterranean. Final stop at Rosemary's Enoteca & Trattoria to satisfy a craving for my favorite Linguine simply prepared with preserved lemon, pickled chili and parmigiano and a glass of Ca' del Bosco, finished off with the unmissable chocolate hazelnut semifreddo!
