Finds: Flea and Feast Adventure Upstate
I normally do not need an excuse to go on an upstate adventure but the clear blue sky and generous sunshine this weekend made for an unmissable weekend to see the foliage and visit a few new stops. Field & Supply in The Black Barn in High Falls and Phoenicia Flea at Stone Ridge Orchard drew an artsy crowd with equally trendy kids and dogs in tow. Field & Supply is a curated marketplace with a mix of furniture, table top and textile vendors that suited the stylized rustic setting of The Black Barn. Among items to browse were mid-century toys, beautifully packaged preserves from local farms like Westwind Orchard, Turkish hamam towels and elegant handmade glassware from The Commons. But the biggest crowd was at the pulled pork vendor and seated on bales of hay to devour the tasty Brother Grub BBQ sandwiches.
Just a few minutes away, Phoenicia Flea at Stone Ridge Orchard gathered a similar crowd for local apple cider and stalls of second hand sellers, antique dealers and small independent merchants. The vast field setting made for a much more casual flow for wandering and discovery - some of my favorite finds were heavy wool fisherman sweaters, stainless steel espresso cups and handmade Japanese pottery.
The adventure would not have been complete if we had not run into a friend who invited us back to his remarkable home in New Paltz to enjoy unique pizza creations from his brick oven with an equally eclectic group of friends.
